What I’m Watching: Drop Dead Diva

Drop Dead Diva. Lifetime.

I happened to be perusing Hulu.com’s “Popular Shows” tab last night, when I noticed a new series I had never seen before. Naturally, I proceeded to watch the first five episodes of said TV series in rapid succession, a decision which resulted in me staying up until 3 a.m.

I’ve been yawning all day today. Not the best way to spend a Monday. Still, I find this show quite enjoyable, so my lack of sleep is not a total loss. Well, that’s what I’ve been telling myself, at least.

Overview:

In the car on her way to an audition, a vapid and ditzy aspiring model named Deb (Brooke D’Orsay) crashes into a truck of grapefruit, dies, and promptly finds herself in heaven and speaking with a smart-alec guardian angel named Fred (Ben Feldman).

Unable to accept her fate, Deb finnagles her way back down to earth, only to find … to her complete horror … that she has returned not as her leggy blonde self, but in the body of a frumpy and overweight attorney named Jane Bingum (Brooke Elliott) who recently died after being shot by a gunman in her law firm.

Now Deb must live out the rest of her life in Jane’s body. Yes, she is now an intelligent lawyer with her own personal assistant, Teri (the hilarious Margaret Cho), but Deb still can’t get over Jane’s non-designer wardrobe and frequent donut cravings.

Plus, there’s the fact that Deb’s perfect, kind and handsome fiance, Grayson (Jackson Hurst) just happens to work at Jane’s law firm. You try watching co-workers hit on your grieving fiance, but being able to do absolutely nothing about it because you’re dead. Not so much fun. Read the rest of this entry »

Bones Finale Aftermath: Updates & Responses

As I was seething with anger at my beloved Bones‘ horrendous and absolutely terrible season finale that made me want to throw something against the wall, I decided to go online and see if any of my favorite TV spoiler sites had something to say about this epic monstrosity.

Here’s what Korbi Ghosh of Zap2it’s Korbi TV had to say:

“Okay, first of all, breathe. Everything will be fine.

Yes, that did just happen.

Booth is taking a year off to go train snipers. Brennan is going to Indonesia for a dig and she’s taking Daisy with her.

But the important thing to remember is that creator Hart Hanson has promised that the series will not have Booth and Brennan apart next year.

Korbi goes on to explain that season 6 if Bones will pick up exactly a year after the finale is set. This means we as the audience do not have to deal with an entire season of Booth and Bones separated (because I think my heart really would break into a billion pieces if that happened). However, by the time we see them again, the two will have been away from eachother for an entire year.

Booth could have been hurt in Afghanistan. Mortally wounded! Brennan could have been poisened in the Indonesian jungle. Or worse – one of them could have ended up falling in love … with someone other than each other. This is simply not acceptable! I refuse to allow it.

I should write them a letter of protest.

Dear Bones writers,

With all due respect, I hate your finale. I hate your new creative direction. You are ruining Bones and Booth’s relationship and I will never forgive you.

Sincerely,

Beth Read the rest of this entry »

I’m VERY Angry at Bones’ Writers

Season finale of Bones = sad face. 😦

Season 5, Episode 22. “The Beginning in the End.”

They are not going to be partners anymore! Bones and Brennan are not going to be partners anymore.

She’s going to the Moluku Islands in Indonesia to head up a research team on one of the greatest anthropological finds of the century. He’s going back into the army to serve in Afghanistan and use his training to help save lives.

Yes, they work great together. He’s a good FBI agent and she’s a good FBI consultant. But he’s better and can do more good as a soldier. And she’s better and can do more good as a traditional anthropologist.

So they are not going to be partners anymore. Is it logical? Yes. Is it acceptable? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!

Yes. It’s only for a year. But a year is forever. I refuse to accept this. Refuse.  Read the rest of this entry »

Goodbye, Numb3rs!

Sad.

Numb3rs is officially over. Thanks a lot for reporting that, EW.com. Way to ruin my day!

Okay, so I really haven’t watched Numb3rs in at least a year. I kind of lost interest about a season or so ago. But there was a time when I was totally and completely in love with this show – I mean, fairly substantially obsessed. So I will be sad to see it go, if only for the sake of nostalgia.

For those of you not cool enough to have any clue what I’m talking about, Numb3rs is a crime drama about a mathematician. Yes, he’s a mathematician. A very sexy mathematician. Don’t judge.

Do you remember the really, really ugly nerdy kid in the movie Heath Ledger movie 10 Things I Hate About You? That was him. Or how about the creepy elf Bernard from the Tim Allen Santa Claus movies? That was him, too.

But I promise, given a couple years, he got a lot better looking. See? Allow me to prove it to you. You’re welcome.

Anyway, the actor’s name is David Krumholtz and his character on the show Numb3rs is a mathematician named Charlie Eppes. Charlie’s brother, Don, is Read the rest of this entry »

Favorite Faces for TV Spoilers

Kristin Dos Santos interviews actress Kristin Chenowith for E! http://www.flickr.com/photos/watchwithkristin/ / CC BY-SA 2.0

There are a number of bloggers who have made a name for themselves writing about popular TV shows and offering weekly plot spoilers and upcoming episode sneak peeks.

These are three in particuar that I follow quite frequently.

Kristin Dos Santos – “Watch With Kristineonline.com. Kristin writes for the E! Entertainment web site and is their resident “TV Diva.” Her site is the one I personally visit most frequently for TV news and spoilers.

I got super excited in 2009 when Kristin shared news about the birth of her son, even though that meant she had to go on maternity leave for a while and would be leaving the spoiler-posting duties to her team of WWK interns and staff.

“Watch With Kristin” is full of polls, trivia and video clips. It’s my absolute favorite way to spend a weekend afternoon learning useless TV information and accomplishing absolutely nothing … because this site makes it so fun!

Korbi Ghosh – “Korbi TV.” Zap2it.com. Korbi started out working for Kristin at E! Online, before moving to Zap2it in April 2008 to head her own TV spoiler blog. It’s much the same format as Kristin’s, but features a bit more heavilty the ABC Family-type drama shows aimed at older teenage girls.

Korbi also does a video segment called “Drinking with the Stars,” where she intervivews current TV actors and actresses over cocktails. For underage kid actors, like Jason Dolley, the fare is decidedly non-alcoholic and she will take them out for milkshakes instead.

Michael Ausiello – “The Ausiello Files.” ew.com. Ausiello writes about TV for the Entertainment Weekly website, but my favorite part is his weekly coloum of TV spoilers titled “Ask Ausiello.”

He’s been around since before Korbi, providing spoilers and competing with Kristin for whose column can get the most web hits. It is for this reason that he and Kristin occasionally refer to eachother as “frenemies” in their respective blogs.

He also provides spoilers via video clips on “Ausiello TV.”

Ausiello is a great place for TV spoilers and I visit his site quite frequently for scoop Kristin might have missed. Though I have to say that in this particular battle, I am decidedly Team Kristin.

So now the question is:

Watch With Kristin, Korbi TV, or The Ausiello Files, which do you prefer?

What I’m Watching: NCIS

NCIS. Tuesdays at 8 pm on CBS.

Overview:

NCIS follows a team of Navy Criminal Investigative Service agents as they inspect crime scenes and solve murder cases.

Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) may seem rough around the edges, but has a caring heart and a bit of a messiah complex that means he will do almost anything to help someone in need.

Gibbs leads a team of three other NCIS agents. Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) is a computer whiz and lovably dorky. Anthony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) spouts trivia from classic films and is full of cocky self-confidence. Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) is a former Mossad agent from Israel with excellent spy skills, but a general lack of understanding when it comes to American culture.

Tony and Ziva bicker constantly, but their chemistry is one of my favorite things about this show.

Also in NCIS headquarters are Ducky (David McCallum), the primly-accented medical examiner with a funny habit of talking to corpses while he examines them, and Abby (Pauley Perrette), the kind-hearted  but overly- Read the rest of this entry »
