Nikita review: I’ve got a pickle, hey hey hey hey.

I was watching the first five minutes of Nikita today with only minor interest.

As you may or may not recall, the series revolves around an ex-assassin named Nikita who is trying to take down a rouge black-ops group called Division. Her partner, Alex, is undercover on the inside posing as a Division recruit.

Today in Division training, Alex was practicing close-range combat – basically laser tag, but meant to prepare you for something a lot more dangerous – with two other recruits, Sarah and Robbie. Robbie was your typical tough-looking army recruit type; talks tough, kind of a jerk. I didn’t take much notice.

Then about the time the simulation ended, the guns went away, and the camera settled in more stably on Robbie’s face … I was suddenly hit with the strangest realization.

Wait a minute, I know that face.

Sweetly dimpled chin, ears ever so slightly protruding – this perpetually-frowning army brat tough guy is the same actor who played Alfalfa in The Little Rascals! Read the rest of this entry »

The Vampire Diaries: Masquerade

Tonight on The Vampire Diaries, the ever-brooding and perfectly-coiffed vampire Salvatore brothers have become bound and determined to kill their scheming vampire ex-girlfriend, Katherine.

Except, Damon and Stefan Salvatore have talked about killing Katherine pretty much ever since she came back to town at the end of last season … and neither of them have actually done it yet.

Let’s face it, they are both still in love with her. There will be no Katherine-killing going down tonight. Read the rest of this entry »

The Rocky Horror Glee Show

Guess what? For Halloween, Brittany is going as a peanut allergy. I bet your costume isn’t that neat. Mine sure isn’t.

Tonight was “The Rocky Horror Glee Show.”

Honestly, this episode would have been much cooler if I’d actually seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show before.

I thought about renting it, but I really wasn’t sure how I felt about watching transvestites in lingerie. Plus, one of my roommates has already seen the live show – so we just had her fill us in on the basic plot, instead. Read the rest of this entry »

Surfing in Hawaii? Forget the sharks. Watch out for sniper rifles.

This week on Hawaii Five-0: A surfer named Ian was shot in the chest by a sniper while out in the ocean competing in a surfing competition.

Also, Kono and Danno had a really cute scene together. Maybe they should be a couple. (Except for that would be the most kitchy rhyming names on TV since the erstwhile Glee coupling of Finn-Quinn.) Still, wouldn’t they make a nice little unexpected pairing? Read the rest of this entry »

I spent my weekend studying. Well, mostly.

Hello, blog-reading world:

You may have noticed that I didn’t post on BethTalksTV at all this weekend. (Or maybe you didn’t notice, but I certainly did. I almost always blog once or twice over the weekend, so to go without doing that felt really weird.)

Alas, when you are in college, you have these things called MIDTERMS that can often get in the way of TV blogging or other potential weekend activities you’re not paying $30K a year for the pleasure of participating in.

So school came before blogging this weekend. Normally I can manage both, but not with midterms. Sigh. Read the rest of this entry »

Week 5 Update: Dancing with the Stars 11, episode 5.

Sad news. In the weeks since I last blogged about Dancing with the Stars, reality TV star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino of MTV’s Jersey Shore was voted off. Yeah,  he had very little dancing technique, and was obviously way too full of himself, but Sitch was just so much fun to watch!

I’m sad to see him go. It’s almost enough to make me want to become a regular viewer of Jersey Shore.

… Wait, no it’s not.

But on to more current DWTS matters – it was TV Theme Week, which meant that each of the 8 remaining stars and their partners danced to a popular TV theme song.

BrandyFriends theme song “I’ll Be There For You.” Very high energy and fun. Score: 27/30

Florence Henderson –Mrs. Brady danced to the Brady Bunch theme song. And she dedicated the dance to (the late) Mr. Brady! Awww. Score: 21/30 Read the rest of this entry »

Pop Culture Gleek-Alikes: Artie, Tina & Mike

Glee covered Travie McCoy‘s “Billionaire” a few weeks back, and the song has quickly become the thing I listen to most on my iPod.

Sam and Puck are great, of course, but Artie‘s verse is definitely my favorite . And as I was listening to it (over and over again, haha) today, I  made an interesting connection. Read the rest of this entry »
