I like vampire shows. If you’ve read my blog before, perhaps you’ve noticed.
I know it’s a weird thing to like, but at least the pop culture prevalence of the Twilight movies or shows like True Blood and The Vampire Diaries have made my fondness for the genre seem not quite as strange.
Below is a list I compiled of BethTalksTV’s favorite vampires of all time, though I am totally open to feedback and ideas in the comments.
1. Mick St. John (Alex O’Loughlin), Moonlight. If you’ve read previous vampire posts or any of my Hawaii Five-O coverage, this should come as no surprise. The main reason I care about vampire TV at all is because of Moonlight. The show was a ratings bomb that aired on CBS for only one season in 2007, but I mourned its passing immensly.
Aussie actor O’Loughlin has gone on to play a leading role in CBS’ Hawaii Five-O reboot, but I still prefer his days as the moralistic vampire hottie Mick – a good-hearted private investigator who only drank blood from bloodbanks and longed for the good old days when he still had a pulse.
O’Loughlin as Mick was really good-looking, but not in the cookie-cutter Hollywood sort of way he is now. He has abs, but they weren’t crazily perfectly chiseled like McGarrett’s are. He was tough, but had a kinder side. And better hair.
No offense, Alex, but as great as you are in Hawaii Five-O, I like your 2007 counterpart better.
2. Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder), The Vampire Diaries. Much more interesting than the show’s main character (his younger brother, Stefan), Damon is definintely the best thing about The Vampire Diaries. Yeah he’s evil, kills people, and has absolutely no moral compass … but Damon is so funny – (and good looking)! So it’s okay?
Seriously, though, if you’ve ever seen this show, you will know that Damon’s sarcastic and witty little one-liners are some of the greatest quotes to come out of these episodes.
