Fall Preview: Returning Shows

The world of television is pretty boring right now. It is one of those awkward in between times: all the summer shows have aired or will soon air their season finales, but none of the fall shows premiere for another few weeks.

So what is a diligent TV viewer to do? (Other than watch two full seasons of a long-cancelled 90s family comedy over the span of four short days …)

Honestly, I don’t have a good answer for that question. So for now, I am going to take a look back over some of the shows I’ve reviewed already –  and hunt down a premiere date for those about to start back up again.

Fall shows: (Click title to read my original show review)

Chuck – season 4 begins September 20, and my favorite dorky but lovable spy will soon come face to face with his long-absent mother (played by Terminator alum Linda Hamilton.)

Bones – for season 6 on September 23, Booth and Brennan reunite after a year apart. And Booth has a new love interest. This does not look promising.

Castle – hopefully Castle’s not still back with his ex-wife when season 3 premieres on September 20. How ever will poor Detective Beckett be able to console herself?

The Vampire Diaries – comes back on September 9 for season 2. And guess which surprise visitor from the finale will be sticking around for a while? Katherine, the scheming vampire who looks exactly like sweet little Elena. Holy case of mistaken identity, Batman! This could get interesting. (Or turn into a really bad soap opera. The jury’s still out.)

Glee – season 2 starts September 21. Finn and Rachel are a couple, Quinn is a Cheerio again, and Britney Spears will guest star in an early episode! Also, the man best known as Uncle Jesse is playing a dentist/new Emma love interest/enemy of Mr. Schue.

Dancing With The Stars – season 11 starts September 20. Cast includes Sarah Palin’s daughter Bristol, Jersey Shore’s“The Situation,” and Mrs. Brady herself Florence Henderson.

V – The aliens are coming! Season 2 starts sometime midseason – exact date still undetermined. Whatever. The very nice too look at good-alien doctor Joshua better stay alive this season, or I refuse to watch. Seriously. I’m this close to abandoning the show. They’d better not mess this up.

Castle and the Corpsicle

Season 2, episode 22; “Food to Die For.”

A top New York chef of reality television fame is found dead on the floor of his resturaunt kitchen. His body has been completely frozen in liquid nitrogen.

Tug on the hand and it literally shatters and breaks into a bunch of glass-like pieces. Now that’s a pretty cool crime scene.

Castle: “How’s our corpsicle?”

Coroner: “Thawing nicely. In spite of the obvious challenges, I found enough unaffected tissue to narrow time of death to between 2 and 4 am.”

This was a pretty cool episode overall. My favorite part was when Castle was at home in his kitchen dropping every piece of fruit in sight into a bowl of liquid nitrogen and then dropping it to smash into a million pieces on the floor. Again. And again. And again.

Then, he accidentally dropped a watch into the mixture.

“Hey, I just froze time.”

Ha ha. Funny, Castle. Funny.
