What I’m Watching: Drop Dead Diva

Drop Dead Diva. Lifetime.

I happened to be perusing Hulu.com’s “Popular Shows” tab last night, when I noticed a new series I had never seen before. Naturally, I proceeded to watch the first five episodes of said TV series in rapid succession, a decision which resulted in me staying up until 3 a.m.

I’ve been yawning all day today. Not the best way to spend a Monday. Still, I find this show quite enjoyable, so my lack of sleep is not a total loss. Well, that’s what I’ve been telling myself, at least.

Overview:

In the car on her way to an audition, a vapid and ditzy aspiring model named Deb (Brooke D’Orsay) crashes into a truck of grapefruit, dies, and promptly finds herself in heaven and speaking with a smart-alec guardian angel named Fred (Ben Feldman).

Unable to accept her fate, Deb finnagles her way back down to earth, only to find … to her complete horror … that she has returned not as her leggy blonde self, but in the body of a frumpy and overweight attorney named Jane Bingum (Brooke Elliott) who recently died after being shot by a gunman in her law firm.

Now Deb must live out the rest of her life in Jane’s body. Yes, she is now an intelligent lawyer with her own personal assistant, Teri (the hilarious Margaret Cho), but Deb still can’t get over Jane’s non-designer wardrobe and frequent donut cravings.

Plus, there’s the fact that Deb’s perfect, kind and handsome fiance, Grayson (Jackson Hurst) just happens to work at Jane’s law firm. You try watching co-workers hit on your grieving fiance, but being able to do absolutely nothing about it because you’re dead. Not so much fun. Read the rest of this entry »
